Created for More

Have you ever had that feeling deep inside that says, “There is more for me”? Not because you are ungrateful for where you are or because what you have accomplished isn’t enough. And certainly not because you need to prove anything to anybody. Sometimes you simply know there are still dreams to dream, places to go, things to create, people to impact, and parts of yourself you haven’t even discovered yet. There is something inside of you reminding you that the story is still being written.

I believe we were created for more. And when I say more, I don’t necessarily mean more accomplishments, more responsibilities, more money, or more things to add to an already full schedule. More can mean becoming more of who God created us to be. It can mean living with greater joy, intention, courage, peace, and confidence. It can mean trusting God with what comes next while appreciating everything He has already done. Sometimes “more” is simply giving ourselves permission to believe that there are still wonderful possibilities ahead.

Don’t Get So Busy Living That You Forget to Live

Life can get busy quickly. There are appointments, deadlines, work responsibilities, family needs, bills, emails, meetings, grocery lists, household responsibilities, and countless other things competing for our attention. Before we know it, we can become so focused on handling the details of life that we forget to enjoy the gift of life. We wake up, take care of what needs to be done, go to bed, and then get up and do it all again.

Every once in a while, we need to look up from the minutia and remind ourselves that there is more to life than our to-do lists. There is joy to experience, people to love, places to see, ideas to explore, dreams worth pursuing, and moments happening right now that we don’t want to miss. Being created for more doesn’t mean constantly chasing the next thing. Sometimes it means being fully present for what’s now while still believing that something beautiful is ahead.

Some of Us Have Had to Fight a Little Harder

The truth is that everybody’s journey is different. Some of us have had to fight a little harder to get where we are. We didn’t always have the easiest road or the clearest path. We’ve had to figure some things out along the way, change plans, pivot, start over, and keep moving when things didn’t happen the way we expected. We’ve had to believe in ourselves when other people didn’t quite understand the vision. We’ve had to pray, work, wait, learn, grow—and then pray some more.

But there is something beautiful about looking back and realizing that you made it through all of that. Everything you learned along the way has become part of what you carry into your next season. You have wisdom you didn’t have before. You have strength, discernment, confidence, resilience, and faith that could only have been developed through living. Maybe the journey was harder than you expected, but harder does not mean impossible. In fact, some of the very things you thought were slowing you down may have been preparing you for where you are going.

Moving Beyond What Has Us Stuck

Moving toward our “more” may require us to be honest about what is keeping us stuck. We may be holding onto an old fear, disappointment, mistake, relationship, expectation, or even an outdated definition of success. Sometimes we are waiting for permission to do something our hearts have been nudging us toward for years. Other times, we have simply become comfortable with what is familiar, even when we know we have outgrown it.

There comes a point when we have to give ourselves permission to grow. We are allowed to change our minds. We are allowed to want something different. We are allowed to dream a new dream, begin again, and become a version of ourselves that the people who knew the old us haven’t met yet. Growth doesn’t mean that we are rejecting who we used to be. We can honor the person who got us here while making room for the person we are becoming.

Moving forward also means understanding that we don’t have to carry everything with us. Some things served their purpose in a previous season but are not meant to follow us into the next one. We can be grateful for what we learned and still let go. We can forgive ourselves for decisions we made when we didn’t know what we know now. We can release the need for everyone to understand our choices. And perhaps most importantly, we can stop allowing yesterday’s experiences to determine tomorrow’s possibilities.

Start Where You Are

One of the most freeing things about purpose is realizing that we don’t have to have everything figured out before we begin. We simply have to be willing to take the next step. Sometimes that step is big, but often it is incredibly ordinary. It might be making the phone call, writing the first page, submitting the application, taking the class, creating the business plan, making the appointment, setting the boundary, having the conversation, taking the trip, getting some rest, or finally trying something new.

We sometimes imagine greatness arriving through one enormous, life-changing moment, but most of the time, greatness is built through small, intentional decisions made consistently. One decision leads to another. One brave step makes the next one a little easier. Then one day, you look around and realize you are standing in a place you once only dreamed about or prayed to reach.

The important thing is to start where you are. You don’t have to wait until you have more money, more confidence, more time, or fewer responsibilities. You don’t even have to wait until you are no longer afraid. Sometimes purpose requires us to move while we are still figuring things out. We take the step we can take today and trust that the next step will become clearer along the way.

There Is Still So Much Ahead

One of the most exciting things about life is realizing how much we haven’t experienced yet. There are people we haven’t met who may become important parts of our stories. There are places we haven’t visited, ideas we haven’t thought of, opportunities we don’t even know exist, and rooms we haven’t walked into yet. There are people we haven’t inspired, memories we haven’t made, laughter we haven’t laughed, and prayers we haven’t seen answered.

We can spend so much time looking backward that we forget to get excited about what is ahead. Certainly, we should honor our stories and celebrate how far we have come. We should learn from our experiences and appreciate the people and moments that helped shape us. But we don’t have to build a permanent residence in yesterday. There is still life ahead of us, and I want to meet it with expectation.

Greatness Doesn’t Have an Age Limit

I also believe we need to stop acting as though purpose has an expiration date. You are not too old. You haven’t missed your moment. You are not automatically behind simply because your timeline looks different from someone else’s. Every season of life brings something valuable with it, and sometimes the dream requires a version of us that only time, wisdom, healing, experience, and a few life lessons could create.

Maybe your twenties were about figuring things out. Your thirties may have been about building. Your forties may have been about becoming. Your fifties may have brought rediscovery, and perhaps your sixties are the years when you finally decide, I’m going to do the things I’ve been talking about doing. [That is the beauty for me about being in my 60s!] And who knows what your seventies and beyond might hold? We don’t have to put limits on what God can still do through our lives.

There are some things we simply weren’t ready for ten or twenty years ago. We didn’t have the wisdom, confidence, connections, experience, or even the courage. That doesn’t mean the opportunity passed us by. Maybe we couldn’t have done it then. But perhaps we are ready now.

Redefining Greatness

Part of being created for more also means redefining what greatness looks like. Greatness doesn’t always have to be loud, and it doesn’t have to come with a title, a large audience, or applause. Greatness can be choosing peace, writing the book, starting the podcast, taking the trip, going back to school, starting the business, learning something new, or finally taking care of yourself.

Greatness can also look like healing an old wound, establishing a healthy boundary, laughing more, loving yourself fully, using your voice, and showing up authentically. It may simply mean waking up in the morning genuinely excited about the life you are creating. There is something powerful about reaching a place where you no longer need your life to look impressive to other people. You just need it to feel purposeful, peaceful, joyful, and true to who you are.

You Were Created for More

So, as you think about your own life, remember that you don’t have to rush, compete, or prove anything. You don’t have to know exactly how everything is going to work out. Just keep moving. Keep believing. Keep dreaming. Keep praying. Keep creating. Keep growing. Keep making room for joy, and keep expecting that there are good things ahead.

When life gets busy and the minutia begins taking over again, remind yourself that you are here for more than simply getting through the day. There is still purpose in you. There are still dreams, gifts, ideas, and possibilities within you. There is still joy waiting for you, adventures with your name on them, and so much life left to live.

I don’t know exactly what your “more” looks like. Maybe it is something big and bold, or maybe it is something beautifully simple. Whatever it is, don’t be afraid to move toward it. Take the next step. Try the new thing. Dream the new dream. Give yourself permission to evolve, and get excited about the person you are becoming.

Because this is what I know: Your best days don’t have to be behind you. There is more to experience, more to discover, more to give, more to become, more joy, more purpose, and more possibility.

You were created for more.

And maybe the most exciting part of all is realizing that you’re just getting started!
